EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY

About Me

My name is Brady Forrest, an English PhD student from Southern California, and I’m running to be your next Student Association Executive Vice President.

Over the past four years, I have had the honor of serving two terms as a CCAS Graduate Senator and currently serve as a Graduate Senator at Large and the SA Senate Chairperson Pro Tempore. As the Pro Temp, I chair the Governance and Nominations Committee and work alongside the current EVP to ensure the Senate runs effectively.  During my terms, I have focused on concrete solutions so that the SA serves every student.  I have passed legislation that reformed the financial bylaws to prioritize diversity and inclusion in SA funding decisions, called on student leaders to attend diversity and inclusion trainings, created the JEC Reform Committee to improve the election process, and codified the duties and responsibilities of SA Senators.  Outside of the Senate meetings, I’ve collaborated with administrators to secure more graduate study space and worked with student organizations to protest the killing of Mike Brown.  If elected I will advocate for a free 18th credit, address food insecurity, promote a more sustainable campus, and create an SA diversity and inclusion task force.

Outside of the SA, I am the President of the English Graduate Student Association and a Graduate Teaching Assistant currently helping organize a disability studies conference.  In my free time you can find me in coffee shops around DC and Arlington catching up on reading with a mocha in hand.

AFFORDABILITY

It is no secret that the cost of tuition at GW is high, it’s the highest amongst our peer institutions, and that the cost of living in DC is one of the highest in the country.  I believe that there are ways to alleviate the financial burden that many feel at GW and in DC through working with administration and making the student voice heard.

SA IN ACTION

One of the major responsibilities of the EVP is to oversee the Senate and the inner workings of the Student Association.  From my three terms in the Senate I’ve learned the ins and outs of the SA governing documents, parliamentary procedure, and the different Senate committees.  I know that I have the experience to make sure that the SA effectively advocates for every students and provides opportunities for any student to get involved.
